I am currently the Human Resources Manager for DP World Adelaide Pty. Ltd.(DPW)
and have held this position since 1995. DPW currently manages the Container
Shipping Terminal at Outer Harbour, South Australia and currently employs
187 employees.
Wendy’s Company, Empowerment Services, was appointed as one of our
Employee Assistance Program providers in 2002 and DPW continues to utilise
her services to this day. Services provided by Empowerment Services include
counselling, coaching, mediation and training. Wendy’s repertoire of
skills has become a valuable resource both for DPW and for me, as Human Resources
Manager. At times when I have been unsure of how to act on a rather ‘touchy’ situation,
Wendy has always provided valuable and appropriate advice.
The DPW is heavily a unionised and predominantly male environment with a
particularly strong culture, and prior to our association with Empowerment
Services it had been difficult to tap into a provider that met DPW’s
unique requirements. I believe that it is Wendy’s personable style,
her approachable nature and her ability to communicate easily and effectively
with people at all levels of our organisation, from Senior Management to
Stevedores, which makes her such a valuable resource. As a result we are
confident referring our employees to Empowerment Services for any of their
services safe in the knowledge that they are in ‘safe hands’.
DPW now has a resource that it does not have to ‘sell’. Wendy’s
reputation precedes her and she has been able to provide a level of assistance
and training to employees which has seen their perspectives and attitudes
change for the positive, whether it be of a professional or personal nature.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Empowerment Services to any organisation
that is serious about providing employees a service which is professional
and is focussed on getting the best out of its people.

In my role as Human Resources Officer for DP World Adelaide Pty Ltd, I have
had the pleasure of working with Wendy Wicks of Empowerment Services on numerous
occasions.
My first encounter with Wendy in 2002 was a course she was facilitating
on ‘Managing Stress’ and this was my introduction to Wendy’s
unique and challenging approach to looking at not only workplace issues,
but our personal values and the way that they impact on the way we conduct
ourselves at our workplace.
After attending this course our Human Resources team identified other areas
where we could use Wendy’s expertise in the areas of Management Development,
Facilitating Change Meetings and as a counsellor/coach for our Employee Assistance
program.
Prior to my involvement with Wendy, I was constantly overwhelmed by issues
arising from my role in Human Resources. This affected my ability to focus
my skills and efforts where they were most needed.
On working with Wendy I realized that she has quite a distinctive approach
when working with her clients. She is able to quickly and intuitively identify
the real, rather than the assumed, underlying issues. I personally found
this approach confronting but ultimately very liberating.
I have been able to work through some quite difficult issues with Wendy’s
support and have found that my overall effectiveness to the company has increased
due to a greater understanding of myself and others as well as a more balanced
approach to problem solving.
As the people in our business have exposure to Wendy and her unique way
of dealing with people and their issues, we have found that they are starting
to deal with pressures in a more proactive manner. On the occasions that
I have referred an employee to Wendy for assistance, I have not had one come
to me and say that she hasn’t been able to assist them in getting back
on track.
We have had several of our employees attend ‘The Next Level’ workshops
and come back saying that their outlook on both the business and personal
front has been transformed in one way or another.
If I had to express the impact that Wendy has had with our organisation,
it would be to say people have started to question the way they approach
issues and deal with their relationships with others.
In the years I have worked with Wendy I have at all times been impressed
with her professionalism and her belief and passion about what she does.
Her ability to communicate at all levels with people has been very impressive
and in our business a real necessity.
I would recommend Wendy’s services to anyone who is struggling with
how they are dealing with people they report to, people reporting to them,
or their peers. I would definitely recommend anyone to look at the programs
Wendy can offer and start the process of making it easier to come to work
and actually enjoy their job.

It was great to again participate in the Communication Skills training
session that you delivered at our site. We want to share with you the "Deliver
Our Promise" document that the Dulux Acratex Operations Team developed
as a result of the recent workshop that we held with you.
As you know this resulted from behavioural issues that we experienced within
the group. I am pleased to say that the staff were all engaged in the process
and workshop you conducted was very well received by the group, with many
favourable responses from staff asking whether we could conduct more detailed
sessions on this.
It is also very apparent that the staff have taken this training in a very
positive manner as we have found that there have been significant changes
in behaviour across the board from the leadership group and across all staff.
We believe that there is significant buy-in from the group and that we will
continue to see the benefits of adopting the key principles associated with
Working Together and intend to have the team sign the attached "Deliver
Our Promise" charter.

I wanted to drop you a line to once again thank you for seeing me recently
when I was in Adelaide.
If you're wondering how it all went after our session, well....IT WORKED!
As soon as I left your office that day I feel as though a huge weight had
been lifted and I physically felt so relaxed - a feeling I haven't
been used to for the past few years. I am still pinching myself over the
fact that three years of heartache and pain was cured in one session with
you.
We didn't try out my 'new body' straight away, but the first thing I noticed
was my lower back. On my plane flight to Adelaide, I had the usual painful,
achy back. This is something I've been getting used to. However, on the flight
home, I was relaxed and pain free. My pelvic area is still very relaxed and
even my chiropractor has commented how much easier I have been to adjust
since returning from Adelaide.
Finally (on Valentines Day actually) we were able to have sex for the first
time in over three years with absolutely no pain whatsoever. After that first
time we thought it might have been a fluke, but no...I'm just fixed now!
Further to that I have been much happier in general and my darling husband
is very pleased that he has his wife back. He says it's nice for him to be
able to show some affection without being shut out, which is what I used
to do. We're like a couple of newlyweds again...ha ha!
Wendy, we can't thank you enough. You have made such a profound and positive
difference in both our lives. Had we not been to see you, it's quite possible
that we would still be stuck in our rut, feeling depressed, not being able
to show affection to one another, dissatisfied with our jobs, and
even living with unnecessary physical and emotional pain. You are
an amazing person and we are so very glad that we met you.
The human mind is an amazing and powerful thing.

I've been lucky enough to have a number of coaching sessions with Wendy
and after each one I come away feeling centred, motivated and excited about
the direction my life is heading. I call it the "Wendy Magic".
I'm not sure how she does it but Wendy seems to have the ability to see things
that others do not. She questions and she continues to question until the
light goes on!
